Mosaic Director

Are you looking for a fun summer job where you can make a difference? MOSAIC Innovation Camp is a brand new summer offering for Middle School students in the Mamaroneck school district focusing on fun career skills development while building a diverse community where anyone can be anything they want to be.

 

What you'll be doing

As the Director of the MOSAIC program you’ll be at the forefront of it all, setting the tone, leading the camp community, and carrying out the requirements and operations of this very unique summer program.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Reporting to the Lead Administrator, you’ll handle advanced planning for the MOSAIC program and full implementation during the summer program dates.  The specialized work areas, for this role, include but are not limited to:

Pre-season

  • Lead the process for planning and designing MOSAIC program content, career specialties and skills for rising grades 6 to 8
  • Review and interview potential staff hires for educators and other support staff
  • Identify and develop career partner speakers and experiences
  • Attend and help organize pre-camp related functions and activities such as, fundraising events, parent orientation, and registration days
  • Coordinating with the registrar and families regarding missing payments
  • Assisting with identifying, coordinating and ordering needed supplies
  • Advising on career curriculum related field trips and confirming payments with Camp Operations 
  • Creating camper group lists and planning and implementing MOSAIC schedule  in conjunction with Camp Operations
  • Ensuring that bus contracts are complete and paid by Camp Operations
  • Developing orientation week activities to promote a collaborative work culture and help all staff members prepare for their program responsibilities

Camp-season

  • Serve as on-site Director for the program during all program dates
  • Supervise all staff in the completion of their duties providing regular feedback through managers, managing staff attendance, timesheets, and paperwork
  • Communicate with families, staff or community partners regularly, reply to concerns promptly
  • Maintain critical administrative paperwork, such as registration, attendance, payroll submissions, reports and invoices
  • Manage camper attendance, communicating with nurse about absences due to illness and managing camper sign it/sign out procedures 
  • Supervise summer learning and elective activities ensuring adherence to developed curriculums, learning goals, and district standards
  • Supervise and manage camper behavioral, emotional and mental well being, recognizing the unique makeup of the camp population and being proactive in spotting developing problems
  • Advise, implement and enforce the highest level of safety for children at all times
  • Attend and coordinate camp program trips as the Trip Director
  • Maintaining program schedule in conjunction with Camp Operations for staff and campers creating alternate schedules when necessary, such as for conflicts or inclement weather
  • Work with Leadership Team to create and implement a quality self-assessment plan based upon the NYSAN Quality Assessment Tool

Post-season

  • Work with Leadership Team to collaboratively determine bonus payments for all head and assistant counselors
  • Gather, summarize and submit post-program feedback from all staff members to inform our Quality Assessment review process (due no later than November 1, 2025) to be presented to the Board of Education as our Co-Op Annual Report

Requirements

  • At least 25 years old as of June 1st, 2025
  • Have a bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience or working professionally in a school setting
  • Leadership skills such as experience on a school leadership team or managing staff 
  • CPR and First Aid training from an approved vendor on the NYS Dept. of Health list (we will train you if you do not possess this certification)  

 

Helpful to have:

  • Past experience working with kids in a group recreational setting such as camp or after school
  • A desire to make a difference in the lives of kids
  • Are Bilingual (Spanish/English)

 

All employees must:

  • Posses a valid social security card and NYS state identification
  • Pass a background check with fingerprint approval if you are not a Mamaroneck School District employee (we will provide instructions as part of the onboarding process)
  • Provide two professional references if you are not a Mamaroneck School District employee and are a new employee
     

REQUIRED PROGRAM DATES & TIMES: 

  • Pre-season: 
    • Camp planning duties as necessary (approximately 1-5 hours per week) leading up to the start of camp
    • Weekly meetings with the Lead Administrator via Zoom with occasional in-person 
    • Pre-camp related meetings and functions as needed and noted above
    • Additional meetings at the discretion of the STEM Alliance
  • Camp-season: 
    • June 30, 2025 to August 1, 2025 (No camp July 4th) 
    • 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Orientation week days (June 30 - Jul 3rd)
    • 7:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Regular camp days
    • Additional hours as needed to handle planning or special administrative duties that happen outside of program hours
  • Post-season: 
    • Meet to review assessment data and final presentation to Board of Education (minimum three 1 hour meetings)
