This position serves as the Senior Technical Writer, supporting the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR), performing complex, professional, and advisory functions in the multi-source document information for development, maintenance and support of applications and infrastructure. 

In this role, you will collaborate with the Quality Assurance (QA) and Business teams to create functionality requirement specifications for QA testing and tracking applications. 

In addition, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments to identify business needs and gather requirements for projects or system enhancements.

Essential Functions

  • Under administrative direction, serves as a Senior Technical Writer for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR), performing complex, professional, and advisory functions in multi-source document information for development, maintenance and support of applications and infrastructure.
  • Collaborates with the Quality Assurance (QA) and Business teams to create functionality requirement specifications for QA testing and tracking applications.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams and departments to identify business needs and gather requirements for projects or system enhancements.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology field by continuing education through meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four (4) years college with course work in Computer Science or directly related fields.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience in Application Services or a related Information Technology field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of professional experience Developing, reviewing, and editing technical documents for accuracy, grammar, and formatting.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience translating technical computer application requirements and business needs into detailed functional specifications that can be understood by developers and technical teams.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with documentation tools and technologies such as project management software, version control systems or content management systems.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with application development design theory, concepts, and principles.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with design and development of application testing and QA tracking system.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience with application testing and QA SOP preparation.
  • Extensive knowledge of system development life cycle (SDLC) processes.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in automated document processing and electronic deposit processing systems.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements, troubleshoot issues and propose innovative solutions to meet business needs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain satisfactory working relationships with others.

  • Requires the ability to travel in performance of duties.
  • Requires the ability to serve in an on-call capacity.
  • Requires the ability to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, short notice, evenings, weekends and holidays.
