Internships- Education and related fields, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Care
Indraloka Animal Sanctuary provides internship opportunities for high school juniors and
seniors aged 16+, college and graduate students, and non-traditional students in numerous
areas. If students are interested in an area aligned with our mission but not included below, we
may be able to create additional focal areas. These internships can be for credit or non-credit
hours, and may or may not be considered for paid hours.
Interns should plan for a regular schedule with set hours and days of the week. This is to
provide the most well rounded experience for interns, as well as provide consistency for the
Indraloka staff and animals.
Mission: Indraloka provides a peaceful sanctuary for humans and nonhumans alike, offering
opportunities to heal, learn, grow and play while reconnecting with nature, rescued (farm)
animals, and our own selves. Through facilitating interrelationships Indraloka empowers and
educates the community to build resilience, spread kindness, create hope, spark curiosity, and
embody compassion.
Internship positions include:
• Animal care- learn basic animal care skills alongside our on site veterinarian, vet
assistants, animal caregivers, and assistant animal caregivers. Learn about medical
terminology, nutrition, 13+ farm animal species, and more. Students studying biology,
pre-vet or veterinary medicine, vet tech, and related majors may be best suited for this
opportunity. This individual should plan to work hands on with the animals in all weather
conditions and may include tasks like preparing meals, grooming, cleaning, refilling waters,
and assisting the animal care team with hands on tasks. Individuals seeking large animal
experience, this position is ideal.
• NEPA Rescue Veterinary Clinic- This position is fast paced, hands on, and designed for
individuals planning careers in veterinary medicine, veterinary nursing, or related fields.
Interns will assist with surgical prep and recovery, clinical assessments, blood draws, fecal
samples, reading monitors, and so much more.
• Education- Assist with events, summer camp, field trips, literacy programs, arts focused
education, and more. There is programming at Indraloka for children of all ages. Activities
may include visits with animals, outdoor sports, indoor/outdoor games, and creative fun.
Individuals interested in education, early childhood development, social work, psychology,
leadership, or coaching make an excellent match for this position.
• Carpentry, Mechanics, Facilities Related- Fence maintenance, barn upkeep, utilizing
lumber and supplies available to create structures, signs, Tractor and mower maintenance
and projects, etc
• Environmental Science, Land Stewardship, Botany and Horticulture- Developing
and maintaining walking trails, contributing to groundskeeping, assisting with environmental
education projects, Garden creation, development, and upkeep, contributing to education
programs and animal care
