General Education Teacher Job Description – Classroom Teacher
This position reports to the building principal. The classroom teacher prayerfully helps students learn subject matter, skills, and attitudes that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christian men and women to the praise and glory of God.
This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties, and the school board and administration may ask employees to complete tasks outside of this scope.
Essential Job Qualifications & Requirements
Christian Knowledge, Beliefs & Commitment
- A strong clear Christian testimony confessing Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord (John 1:12, John 3:3, I Peter 1:23).
- Acceptance without reservation of the school’s Employment Contract, Statement of Faith, and Declaration and Agreement to Ethical and Moral Integrity. Knowledge and ability to convey Christian beliefs, teachings, faith, and values that align with the school’s Statement of Faith to students, with the goal of assisting students in the formation and maturity of their own Christian faith.
- Ability to teach all subjects from a Christian biblical worldview and perspective and to infuse and integrate Christian faith into all classes.
- Attend and support a Bible-believing church or fellowship of believers (Hebrews 10:25) whose doctrine and beliefs are not contrary to CCS’s Christian doctrines and beliefs.
- Must be able to serve as a positive Christian role model to students and all others in the ACS school context. (I Timothy 4:12, Luke 6:40).
- Must have an understanding of and commitment to ACS’s educational objectives, religious mission, and philosophy of education.
- A lifestyle of biblical integrity, not promoting or engaging in actions, beliefs, or lifestyles contrary to biblical standards, such as premarital, extramarital, transgender, or homosexual behavior (Romans 12:1-2, I Corinthians 6:9-20, Ephesians 4:1-11, 5:3-5, I Thessalonians 4:3-8, I Timothy 4:12, II Timothy 2:19-22, I Peter 1:15-16, 2:15-17, I John 3:1-3).
- Must affirm that he/she believes is passionate about the intellectual and moral formation of students and Christian education as a profession, believes that this profession and their role as a teacher are a good use of time and talent to honor the Lord Jesus Christ, and understands that teaching at ACS is a Christian ministry.
- Must enjoy working with young people.
Professional Credentials & Abilities
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in education or related field
- State teaching certificate or ACSI teachers certificate
- Must have appropriate knowledge of the subject matter and be effective in teaching and maintaining appropriate classroom discipline.
Individual Skills
- Superior interpersonal relationship skills.
- Excellent judgment and discretion.
- Physical stamina required to fulfill the professional obligations of the teaching profession, their specific faculty assignment, and the management and safety of students, including, but not limited to, climbing stairs, riding the bus, lifting common classroom equipment and materials, supervising students both out-of-doors and indoors, assisting with the evacuation of students in case of emergencies.
- Proficiency in computer and technology applications necessary for the teaching profession.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to use the English language properly.
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and effective time management skills.
- Flexible and adaptable to schedule and other changes.
- Ability to maintain an orderly learning atmosphere.
- Well organized, diligent, and creative.
