Volunteer Engagement Manager

This position supports Free Arts by managing the volunteer program including the process from recruitment to retention; ensuring adequate and engaged volunteer resources; and building and maintaining strong relationships with the external community.

Position Competencies and Responsibilities

Manages People - Proficient level of competency  

  • Manages the volunteer program and supervises volunteer program staff.
  • Ensures individual goals are aligned with organizational goals and can articulate the alignment.
  • Shares information, advice, and suggestions to help others to be more successful.
  • Holds individuals appropriately accountable to results.
  • Coordinates with the Development & Marketing team to manage corporate and community group volunteers.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for individual office and art room volunteers; communicates tasks and prepares materials.

Planning and Organizing- Advanced level of competency  

  • Develops clear goals for programs, projects, and events.
  • Develops and uses systems to organize and keep track of information or work progress.
  • Manages all aspects of the volunteer inquiry and enrollment process, to include volunteer orientations, interviews, monthly training, and coaching.
  • Manages volunteer trainings, including facilitation, quality improvements and coaching of co-facilitators.
  • Allocates, adjusts, makes decisions, and manages resources and budgets according to shifting priorities.
  • Continually assesses the volunteer program for effectiveness to ensure goals are met.
  • Researches, develops, and maintains relationships that will generate volunteers and volunteer opportunities that match agency priorities.
  • Develops and implements strategies for volunteer retention and recognition; tracks data to report results.
  • Manages databases to support volunteer engagement and placement.
  • Coordinates external communications with volunteers (i.e. electronic newsletter, fliers, Eventbrite postings, etc.)
  • Represents Free Arts as an Ambassador at corporate and community events.
  • Tracks organizational outreach activities, the number of events, and audiences reached.
  • Works across departments to support strategic agency initiatives.

                                                                    Requirements 

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional supervisory experience and working with volunteers.  
  • Ability to deliver engaging and informative presentations to small and large groups, both in-person and online. 
  • Demonstrated success managing volunteer services.  
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, manage, develop, and retain volunteers.  
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, inclusiveness, and equity.  
  • Ability to use Microsoft applications at a high-functioning level.  
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a Fingerprint Clearance Card to be present around the children we serve.  
  • Must have access to and provide reliable transportation for self. An AZ driver’s license and proof of insurance is required for qualifying mileage reimbursements.  
  • Must be able to travel to partner locations within Maricopa County 30% of the time, with occasional travel to additional AZ counties for programs and events. 
  • This person frequently interacts with staff, board members, funders, and constituents about the programs and services of Free Arts at an executive level. Must be able to communicate professionally and exchange accurate information with internal and external stakeholders.  

 

Preferred Qualifications  

The following qualities and experience in addition to the years of experience

are highly desirable:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  
  • Demonstrated ability to implement adult learning modalities.  
  • Ability to read and write in Spanish.  
  • Experience with CRM software (Salesforce ideal).

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time using a computer. 
  • Must be able to identify and assess written materials including fine print. 
  • Must be able to position self to maintain files, supplies, document boxes, and other materials up to 50 pounds as needed. 

Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to regularly work in a well-lit, temperature-controlled work area.
  • Must be able to work a mix of weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must be able to work in an open area with other employees and volunteers 80% of the time.
