Job Summary
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the Superintendent's supervision, The Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.
Responsibilities
• Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways
• Hire, orient, and train all golf course maintenance department employees
• Schedule work and supervise employees and use of equipment
• Instruct equipment operators on operation and care of mowing and other equipment
• Supervise pesticide application and/or operate and calibrate pesticide application equipment
• Supervise and participate in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and irrigation and drainage systems
• Assist with personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, and discipline
• Supervise the mowing, watering and maintenance of tees, greens, fairways and related areas
• Supervise planting, fertilizing and maintenance of turf
• Perform tasks necessary to keep maintenance facility and equipment clean, organized, and safe
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
• Associate degree or Turf Management Certificate
Other Required Qualifications
• Obtain and maintain commercial pesticide applicator's license, if not licensed
Required Experience
• Two or more years of turf maintenance experience
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
• Formal training or education in Turf Management
• A thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf
• Experience managing warm season turf grasses
Proposed Salary
$50,173 - $63,955
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

• Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
• Ability to maintain tees, fairways, greens, and appurtenances to an acceptable standard of golf course play
• Ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of others
• Ability to maintain effective employee and public relations
KNOWLEDGE
• Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
• Basic knowledge and understanding of the mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components involving pump station maintenance
• Thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens
• Knowledgeable about the game of golf

• Conflict resolution skills
