Job Description
The First Ask is a candidate identification and recruitment initiative that works to identify, enlist and launch women as candidates for State House & State Senate. The First Ask eases barriers to entry to close the gender gap in representation, with the ultimate goal of advancing and protecting liberal policies in State chambers.
The First Ask is seeking passionate and driven interns to join our team and actively participate in our efforts to enlist candidates for State House & State Senate. As an intern, you will have the unique opportunity to participate in a political start up, gain valuable insights into the electoral processes, and contribute to meaningful projects that align with your interests and skills.
This is a paid internship opportunity.
Location: In Person in Washington DC (Dupont Circle)
Hours: Full Time, not to exceed 40 hours per week
Start Date: Monday, June 9th, 2025
End Date: Friday, August 8th, 2025
Salary: $1,000 per month
Responsibilities:
- Assist in organizing and supporting events and fundraisers.
- Conduct research on relevant issues, legislation, and candidates.
- Manage and update social media accounts to increase outreach and engagement.
- Draft and edit communications, including newsletters, press releases, and linkedin posts.
- Collaborate with team members on grassroots organizing and community outreach initiatives.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for strategic planning.
- Provide administrative support to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization.
- Organize and analyze electoral data for organization and candidate growth.
Requirements:
- Strong interest in politics, advocacy, and social issues.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in using social media platforms for outreach and engagement.
- Familiarity with research methods and data analysis.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Passionate about promoting civic engagement and democratic participation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Availability to work 35 hours per week.
