MWRA, Intern, Law Division

The Law Division provides legal counsel to MWRA's Board of Directors, Executive Director and staff. Law Division attorneys represent the MWRA in litigation before the federal and state courts and in administrative hearings before federal and state agencies. Law Division attorneys also handle matters in a variety of legal areas including real estate, environmental, energy, labor and employment, public procurement and construction, contracts, state ethics, open meeting law and public records.

POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONISIBILITIES:

MWRA's Law Division is seeking a qualified candidate for a 2025 internship position. The intern will be supervised by Law Division attorneys for assigned work. The position may be eligible for telework with prior approval for up to 50% of the work time in accordance with MWRA's Telework Policy. Responsibilities include conducting legal research, reviewing, analyzing and summarizing federal, state and local legislation, laws and regulations and case law, drafting memoranda, pleadings, court filings and briefs, summarizing legal findings and other related duties as required. Attending hearings with Law Division attorneys may also be part of the internship.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Completion of at least 1 year of study and current enrollment at an ABA accredited law school. Individuals who have completed law school are not eligible.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent research, critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Strong time management and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple assignments.

  • Work Location: Deer Island, Winthrop, MA;
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
  • Time frame: This is three-month (spring-summer), paid internship with the possibility to extend.*May be eligible for telework up to 50% of the work week; a waiting period may apply.
