Finance and Accounting Intern
Position Summary: Responsible for tasks related to finance and accounting for charter schools and non profit organizations including journal entries, balancing, audits, and special projects.
Reports To: Senior Accountant
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Accounting data entry and bank reconciliation.
- Assist Accounts Payable department with various needs.
- Maintain files, including filing of accounts payable documentations and other miscellaneous filing.
- Pick up/delivery of mail and other materials.
- Account reconciliation in the general ledger.
- Entering Journal Entries.
- Engaging with other client/department managers.
- Assist with annual audit and meeting other statutory requirements.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Some knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel) or similar software.
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate or Graduate Student in a finance, accounting, public/non-profit management program or related field.
- Junior or Senior classification, if Undergraduate Student.
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA.
- Must have experience working with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with QuickBooks preferred.
Hours & Travel: Approximately 20 hours per week; flexible depending on availability; opportunity for additional hours during the school breaks. Local travel required on occasion due to client needs.
