Aging Services Workforce Development Intern

 

 

Position Description:

Aging Services Workforce Development Intern – Paid

Primary Hours: Flexible schedule, 20 hours per week, August 2025-May 2026.

Payroll Status: Temporary, 30 weeks

Pay Rate:

  • $12/hour for bachelor’s level students
  • $15/hour for master’s or higher-level students

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Aging Services Workforce Development Intern is responsible for assisting LeadingAge Kansas in creating innovative solutions to support the recruitment and retention of staff in aging services. This position works closely with the Director of Government Affairs and the President/CEO, focusing on research, policy, and partnerships to address workforce challenges. The intern will independently and collaboratively develop materials, toolkits, and strategies for member organizations.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Conduct research to inform and develop innovative workforce solutions for aging services.
  • Create materials and toolkits to support LeadingAge Kansas members in staff recruitment and retention.
  • Collaborate with colleges, workforce entities, and other educational institutions to enhance workforce pathways, ladders, and lattices in the aging services field.
  • Engage with members to understand workforce needs and challenges, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Foster partnerships that promote workforce development for aging services providers.
  • Work alongside the Director of Government Affairs and President/CEO to monitor and address local, state, and federal policy changes impacting workforce development.
  • Participate in advocacy efforts, including drafting policy recommendations and engaging stakeholders.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Enrolled part-time or full-time in a bachelor’s or master’s/advanced degree program in a related field (e.g., gerontology, social work, public administration, or workforce development).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe products, and video conferencing tools.
  • Interest in workforce development, aging services, or public policy is a plus.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Sit, stand, and walk as required for meetings and research.
  • Effective listening and speaking capabilities for team collaboration and presentations.
