Department/Office: Medical Mutts Service Dogs
Hourly Wage: $15/hr.

General Purpose/Agency Overview

Medical Mutts, the leading authority in medical alert assistance dogs, is dedicated to training rescued dogs to be service dogs and to promoting collaboration between dogs and people through science, education, and ethical training. We were founded with the vision that shelter dogs could be rescued and trained to help vulnerable individuals with seizures, diabetes, anxiety, PTSD, migraines, and other disabilities.  We believe in giving abandoned dogs a fresh start and making life better for people facing significant challenges.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

50% Creates and posts engaging content on social media platforms, monitors inboxes for community inquiries, and provides timely responses.

20% Drafts and sends a monthly newsletter to stakeholders, ensuring all content aligns with the center's messaging and goals.

20% Help organize and participate in community events, conferences, webinars, and workshops to connect with potential clients, volunteers, and donors

10% Other duties as assigned by the supervisor that support the communication goals and operations of Medical Mutts.

 

Tools and Equipment Used 

Equipment needed will be a computer and phone. Salesforce, WIX, Canva, Google Workspace, and Social Media Applications will be the main software utilized - access will be provided. 

 

Experience Gained in this Role / Learning Outcomes 

  • Communicator: Students will significantly enhance their communication skills by creating engaging content for social media, crafting clear and impactful newsletters, and providing timely responses to community inquiries. This role offers opportunities to practice written and digital communication, develop strategies for audience engagement, and improve active listening through direct interactions with stakeholders. Students will also refine their ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences, strengthening their capacity to convey information effectively across different platforms.
  • Community Contributor: Students will contribute to Medical Mutt’s mission of training shelter dogs as service dogs, specifically under two goal areas. First, they will support us in raising awareness about the benefits of service dogs and how they transform lives. Second, they will help us to foster a community rooted in compassion, trust, and care. In doing this, we hope the students will help promote a greater understanding and support for individuals with disabilities. By attending community events, students will also develop an understanding of community and gain practice in communicating with diverse groups of people. 

 

Qualifications

Preferred Majors: Students pursuing degrees in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Public Relations, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

Skills and Experience

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple communication tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, particularly for creating clear and engaging content.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with email marketing platforms or content management systems.
  • Previous experience in social media management, graphic design, customer service, or community engagement is a plus, but not required.

  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Comfortable adapting to changing situations and interacting with diverse audiences, ensuring all communication is clear and inclusive.
  • Comfortable being around dogs and working in an animal friendly environment 

 

Physical Demands: This position will require occasional light physical activity, such as assisting with materials for events and getting camera footage of animals. It primarily involves desk work and communication tasks.
