Internship (Summer 2025) at RARO (W&L CBL)

Position – Community Outreach & Program Enhancement Intern

Internship Overview

As a Community Outreach and Program Enhancement Intern, you will help increase RARO’s visibility within the community, boost participation in RARO programs, and enhance the accessibility of RARO services for community members. Your work will consist of assisting RARO in one or both of the following initiatives –

1. Marketing - RARO is working with W&L’s Student Consulting Team this spring on formulating a marketing strategy that will help increase community participation. The intern’s goal is to revitalize and strengthen RARO’s monthly newsletter, social media platforms, and community wellness guide.

2. Implementation of a recreational software management system - RARO will begin using a recreational software management platform. The intern would support loading all of their programs and information into the new system and assist in making it operational.

The scope of work will be determined based on student interest and organizational needs.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in typing and computer software, such as Microsoft products
  • Strong communicator (verbally and in writing)
  • Ability to complete tasks by deadlines
  • Collaborates well in small groups 
  • Exhibits strong writing skills 
  • Marketing project - familiarity with social media platforms and creativity
  • Software management system project - a willingness to learn new skills and troubleshoot problems

Internship Structure

This internship is part of the Office of Community-Based Learning’s (CBL) internship program. As an intern, you will receive ongoing support from CBL staff and your on-site supervisor. You will also participate in weekly cohort meetings for training and reflection.

Although this is an unpaid internship, students are encouraged to apply for summer funding through the Career and Professional Development Office (applications typically due winter term) and the Johnson Opportunity Grant (applications due January or March). Please note that funding is limited and not guaranteed. Additional need-based funding is available through the Community-Based Learning office upon request. This internship qualifies for EXP credit (CPD 451) through the CPD office. Sign up for the CPD Canvas Course (go.wlu.edu/Canvas) to receive alerts regarding summer funding and course credit.
