Overview
The 21st Century Scholars Success Program empowers scholars to achieve their personal, educational, and career goals with resources, and support systems that promote academic achievement, connection and timely graduation.
The 21st Peer Mentoring Program provides first-year scholars with an individual mentor and workshops that focus on developing strategies for academic and personal success.
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities
- Conduct regular one-on-one and group meetings throughout the academic year. Proactively address mentees' challenges and offer referrals to on- and off-campus resources as needed.
- Support the goals, expectations, and mission of 21st Century Scholars Success Program.
- Foster a community among mentees by promoting program values and teamwork. Actively participate in group discussions and collaborative initiatives.
- Keep accurate and timely records of mentee interactions and program activities. Support program goals by attending all required training sessions and biweekly staff meetings.
- Assist with tabling and large-scale programming put on by office.
- Potential for additional committee work.
Required Qualifications
- Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.
- Possess at least a sophomore status at IUI (24+ completed credit hours).
- Be an undergraduate student at IU Indianapolis.
- Possess positive communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to understand barriers that first-generation and/or low-income students face in college.
Experience Gained in this Role
- Communicator- Students will gain knowledge on how to convey their ideas effectively and ethically in oral, written, and visual forms across multiple settings including face-to-face and online.
- Community Contributor- Students will gain knowledge about low-income student backgrounds by interacting with the IUI campus community.
