
Plastic Surgery Internship
Plastic Surgery/Aesthetic medicine private practice Internship Opportunity (12 months): Clinical & Research Assistant to the surgeon and practice for all aspects of the clinical private practice. This unique, combined principles, full-time internship is ideal for qualified Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health/Medical students and or those with a keen interest in the field of medicine and health. (Academic Physician Affiliation: New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center). Candidates must be available to start in May/June 2025 and commit to a 12 month period, through June 2026.
Responsibilities consist of three categories:
1. Clinical : assisting the physician/providers during in-office procedures, including small surgical procedures, preparing examination rooms, inventory, health histories, clinical patient screenings and post-procedure phone follow-ups, introduction to operating room, train and support OR operations as determined by policies and physician, (modifications and precautions in place due to Covid)
2. Clinical Admin: preparing patient charts, learning how to compose notes, vital signs, clinical photography and photo archiving, document scans to EMR, functioning as a back-up patient coordinator, consultation scribing, and performing other clinical/administrative tasks relevant to the whole practice.
3. Clinical research: literature searches, contribution and preparation of presentation material for national and international meetings, researching and writing patient-education materials, high level research for novel technologies in the field, IRB trial involvement if study in progress, data collection and analysis, support or conduct writing of scientific clinical studies for submission, opportunity to propose and conduct topic specific studies in collaboration with physician . (The research and publication activities will vary from year to year)
Ideal candidates are polished in appearance and presentation, are strong team players, possess superior communication skills (both written and oral) and are highly organized. An ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, performing and synthesizing comprehensive literature searches, attention to detail, superior patient-relations skills and computer proficiency are all essential.
