2025 PhD Software Engineer Intern (Threat Detection), United States
We’re looking for Ph.D. students specializing in Applied Machine Learning to intern during Summer 2025 (12 weeks). As a Ph.D. intern, you will work on a bold and exciting problem in depth independently, under the supervision of an experienced professional on that team.

About the Team
The Threat Detection team at Uber is responsible for identifying and mitigating malicious activities to safeguard Uber's services, infrastructure, and users, with the help of machine learning, big data technologies. They work closely with other teams within Engineering Security to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of customer information, and ensure a secure computing environment for the Uber community.

Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program studying Machine Learning, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant technical fields
- Candidates should have at least one semester/quarter left of their education after finishing the internship
- Experience in machine learning algorithms, deep learning, and statistical modeling
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Experience in NLP and GenAI/LLMs
- Experience with machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch,or Skit-learn
- Experience presenting at industry recognized academic conferences and a good publishing record
