Junior or Assistant Specialist

The Raymond Cho/Jeffrey Cheng UCSF Dermatology lab is actively seeking a highly motivated research specialist at the junior or assistant level. Our laboratory focuses on developing precision medicine approaches to improve treatment of inflammatory skin disease (e.g. https://directorsblog.nih.gov/tag/rashx/). We study human and mouse model inflammatory skin diseases on the single-cell level (single cell RNA-sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and highly multiplexed immunofluorescence) to further molecular classification and treatment response prediction. The ideal candidate would have at least a B.A./B.S. degree with a strong immunology background and be independent and self-motivated, detail oriented, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills. We expect the appointee to participate in and receive authorship in scientific articles and to contribute to the intellectual environment of the laboratory, in addition to supporting and managing the lab. He/she must be able to plan, conduct, and oversee experiments, independently develop and optimize experimental protocols, and interpret data and results. 

Required Qualifications: · Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience. · Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree or a baccalaureate degree with three or more years of research experience · 1.5 year commitment to working in the lab. · Excellent organizational and written/oral communication skills · Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities · Attention to detail and accurate record keeping · Ability to work well independently and collaboratively with other lab members · Previous research experience of at least 6 months · Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment. · Candidate’s CV and/or cover letter must state qualifications (or if pending) upon submission. Preferred Qualifications: · Expertise in immunology assays (such as flow cytometry, stimulation assays, ELISA) · Experience with computer programming/bioinformatics
