Civil Engineering Intern, Bridge
Official Position Description:
This is a temporary position involving various duties that will either supplement the student’s major field of study and/or provide experience that is a useful addition to the student’s education and meaningful preparation for future professional employment.
In Planning & Programs work unit, under supervision & in training, uses personal computer to assist with a variety of planning activities involving Geographic Information Management Systems (GIMS) &/or Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD) projects (e.g., collects, prepares, digitizes &/or geo-codes spatial data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) &/or CADD usable format); uses scanner/interface to scan documents (e.g., photographs, engineering drawings, project plans, maps); becomes familiar with personal computer-based & mainframe CADD systems, MicroStation & various software packages used by the District in collection of GIS data & the preparation of highway plans.
Conducts traffic counts; collects & reviews field data; verifies sign & pavement marking locations; photographs sites of proposed projects; researches & analyzes accidents & traffic signal warrants; participates in field reviews & project scoping.
Performs miscellaneous duties to facilitate operational efficiency of work unit (e.g., researches plans & records, assists with recordkeeping, maintains accurate data of work performed, organizes materials, compiles information, uses Microsoft Word & Excel software to prepare reports, attends training).

Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled in a college/university and in good academic standing prior to and during their entire appointment as a college intern. All College Interns are required to provide proof of enrollment, class status, and good academic standing with their college/university prior to beginning employment & throughout their time with ODOT in order to remain employed as a College Intern.
Acceptable forms of documentation include an official or unofficial transcript with current class schedule. If a transcript cannot be obtained the student’s advisor shall complete & sign the College Intern Verification Form indicating enrollment, class rank & GPA.
