Camp Director

Overview: The Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our residential camp, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff, and fostering a positive, engaging, and educational environment. This role requires a strong background in child care, staff management, and program development, with a focus on ensuring that students’ individual needs and goals are met throughout the summer.   Duties include the following:

Child Care and Management

  1. Ensure the general safety of the students and residential staff.
  2. Direct the placement of students in the dorm.
  3. Ensure that all students maintain good personal hygiene.
  4. Develop, in conjunction with the faculty, students’ individual goals, and monitor the implementation of any specific programs.
  5. Provide Residential Supervisors and Residential Instructors with continuous consultation regarding daily child management strategies. 
  6. Provide crisis management and general supervision of any resulting behavioral programs.
  7. Coordinate communication with parents. 
  8. Monitor the maintenance of Dorm Books.
  9. Monitor student travel arrangements. 
  10. Monitor that the health procedures defined by the nurse are implemented. 
  11. Ensure that the dining room is properly supervised during meal times. 

 

Personnel

  1. Participate in the process of hiring all Residential Instructors and Residential Supervisor.
  2. Provide new trainees with an orientation to the procedures and operating philosophy of Oakland School. 
  3. Provide employees with feedback and evaluation of their performance, including goal setting and defining areas that need development. 
  4. Provide staff with training and development experiences and consultation designed to increase their skills. 
  5. Conduct daily meetings with staff to:
    1. Review recreation and sports activity planning
    2. Monitor problem solving
    3. Provide consultation and motivation
    4. Review health problems
    5. Review disciplinary matters

 

Administration and Facilities

  1. Review and submit maintenance requests. 
  2. Manage Recreation budget and order supplies.
  3. Monitor dormitory housekeeping and grounds upkeep.
  4. Continually review the recreational, sports, and child care programs to improve them and prevent problems. 
  5. Oversee fire drills.
  6. Coordinate community interaction. 

 

Communication

  1. Meet with the Head of School daily.
  2. Attend Program meetings (as available) with the Head of School and other Administrators weekly.
  3. Run RI meetings daily.
  4. Keep in contact with parents/ guardians on a regular basis through e-mails and telephone calls.
