Hazen Union Community School – Summer 2025 Internship
● Location: Hardwick, VT
● Duration: June 7 – August 15, 2025 (Part-time, 20 hrs/week)
● Organization: Hazen Union Community School
● Housing: Free housing provided in a shared residence at Sterling College (Craftsbury, VT)
● Travel: Reliable transportation required between housing and on-site work
● Responsibilities: Collaborative office work & hands-on community engagement, including
outdoor activities and event setup
● Compensation: $18/hour
Who We Are

About the Internship
This internship is an exciting opportunity to work alongside the Community School Coordinator to support and expand our community-based initiatives. The intern will play a key role in planning and executing summer programming for students, engaging in community organizing, and fostering relationships with local partners to deepen and sustain our work.
This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about education, community engagement, and social change. You will gain hands-on experience in partnership development, program coordination, and student engagement while working closely with a diverse range of organizations, educators, and youth leaders.
Responsibilities
● Assist in planning and facilitating summer programming for students, ensuring activities are inclusive, engaging, and aligned with the Community School’s mission.
● Work with community partners to develop and strengthen collaborative initiatives that address mental health, equity, and youth leadership.
● Support outreach efforts to connect students, families, and community members with available resources.
● Help coordinate events, meetings, and projects that build capacity for the Community School initiative.
● Contribute to program evaluation efforts by collecting feedback and assessing community needs.
Responsibilities:
Interns will need to undergo a background check and fingerprinting process and should begin this as soon as possible, since it can sometimes take months to get clearance.
Ideal Candidate
● Passionate about public education, community organizing, and social justice.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of people.
● Self-motivated and adaptable, able to transition between different types of work throughout the day.
● Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
● Experience or interest in working with youth, mental health initiatives, or equity-driven projects is a plus.
Additional Information
This internship is part of a UVM-sponsored cohort of interns working with various organizations across the Northeast Kingdom to support community resilience.
Interns will participate in:
● A week-long community orientation alongside other UVM interns.
● Weekly professional development and networking workshops.
● A final sharing event in mid-August.
