Communications Specialist
Partners In Progress (PIP) is hiring a Social Media Intern to raise the visibility of the organization’s work and impact among donors, government agencies, and NGO’s internationally. PIP works with rural based organizations in Haiti and Uganda to strengthen local cultural, social, and environmental assets for building resilient, sustainable community through an inclusive, community-driven approach to development.
Position: Communications Specialist
Status and Hours: Temporary Part-time – 9 months, average 6 hrs. per week
Compensation: $18/hr.
Primary Role: Writing, organizing and posting content for social media platforms
Benefits: Flexible schedule, opportunities for professional development training and to gain experience in communications and international development
Responsibilities:
- Develop calendar for social media postings
- Work with PIP Staff to identify stories for postings
- Organize content, including photos, videos and narrative
- Create social media posts and email updates related to program impact
- Reply to comments from subscribers
- Identify opportunities to influence public perception through engagement about the new PIP name and brand scheduled for launch this summer
- Coordinate virtually with Konbit Stories team in Haiti to identify and schedule publication of stories related to traditional food systems
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Strong writing and creative skills and ability to work in with team
- Self-directed with initiative to take something from start to finish
- Ability to research ideas and find out more about PIP programs and development topics
- Excellent knowledge of social media platforms
- Knowledge or experience with social media and email marketing campaigns
- Excellent critical thinking, interpersonal, time-management and problem-solving skills
- Understand basics of capturing images and videos and editing according to each platform
Preferred Qualifications
- Study or strong interest in the fields of marketing, communications, environment, agroecology and traditional food systems, or international development
- Design experience in Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
