Community Engagement Intern

Position Description:

Stark Parks is looking for a student working toward a degree in marketing, public relations, communications, and/or digital media who is interested in gaining experience in a park environment. As a Community Engagement Intern, you will assist in various initiatives designed to strengthen the connection between Stark Parks and the local community. You will support efforts to engage diverse audiences, increase participation in programs, and enhance the organization's presence in the community.

 

Start Date(s):

Internship periods can be based on your availability…   

  • Spring (March 1 – May 31) 
  • Summer (June 1 – August 31) 
  • Fall (September 1 – October 31)

 

Time Commitment:

12-15 hours/week, some weekends and evenings. Hours and days will vary. This will be determined by the Community Engagement Manager. 

 

Compensation:

This is a non-paid internship position for anyone interested in gaining experience in this field for school credit. 

 

Supervision:

The Community Engagement Intern will report to the Community Engagement Manager 

Position Responsibilities:

The community engagement intern will support various projects and assist the Community Engagement team including the Community Engagement Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator and Digital Media Specialist.  Areas of responsibility including but not limited to: 

  • Assist with writing internal and external communications including e-newsletters and press releases 
  • Content creation for website and social media outlets 
  • Attend and assist with community booth opportunities to distribute Stark Parks marketing materials; may include assisting as FeLeap, the Stark Parks mascot as needed
  • Organize and help with photo and publication archives 

 

Requirements:

  • Current student or recent graduate in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Community Development).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Comfortable working with diverse groups of people and understanding community dynamics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
  • Knowledge of community engagement strategies or volunteer management is a plus.
  • Must pass a background check.
