Wildlife Center Intern

Lake Metroparks Kevin P. Wildlife Center Unpaid Internship

 

Under the supervision of the Wildlife Care Manager, the Wildlife Center Intern assists the Wildlife Center Staff with the reduction of stress on wildlife populations through human education and wildlife rehabilitation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provides daily husbandry for rehabilitation and education animals, including daily cleaning, feeding, and enrichment.
  • Provides basic habitat and nutritional needs for animals under the care of the Wildlife Center. 
  • Assists with basic first aid, administers medications, and performs exams & triage.
  • Assists with nursery care and husbandry.
  • Assists with wildlife rescues and releases as needed. 
  • Assists with facility cleaning, laundry, and dishes to prep for the following day.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be pursuing a degree in biology, pre-vet, wildlife management, zoology, or related field. 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. 

 

Requirements:

  • Students are required to work two, 8–9-hour shifts per week.
  • Internships are 12-14 weeks and may be completed throughout the year but are primarily May through August. 
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be willing to volunteer in any weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid drivers’ license and insurable on the Agency’s liability policy. Background check and completion of all volunteer materials required.
