2025 Analyst, Investment Grade Credit Systematic Trader

RBC’s systematic trading teams are comprised of traders who develop algorithms to trade on their behalf. The role offers an unrivaled opportunity to work in a highly technical algorithmic trading team. Systematic traders on the team will develop and manage automated trading strategies for U.S. investment grade corporate bonds. The desk also manages portfolio trades (PTs) and systematic ETF market making.

Ideal candidates will be graduating by Spring 2025 or be an experienced hire. The analyst will work closely with the team to write trading code and use quantitative methods to identify trading opportunities. The role will involve broad exposure to quantitative research, software development, and trading. Finance knowledge is a plus, but by no means a requirement.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

As a systematic trader, analysts can expect to:

  • Assist in developing trading and market making strategies by conducting quantitative research on market microstructure and leveraging this research into actionable market making strategies.
  • Work in a unified trading team managing a systematic bond trading algorithm, portfolio trades, and bond ETF market making.
  • Manage concurrent work streams in collaboration with other teams to drive forward strategic initiatives.
  • Write production-grade Java and Python code in a trading environment focusing on correctness, interpretability, and performance.
  • Assist with day-to-day trading tasks such as portfolio trades (PTs), ETF creation/redemption, and ad-hoc trade/strategy analysis.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

In selecting analysts, we look for the following:

  • Degree (or graduating in December 2024 or Spring 2025) from an accredited four-year college or university or master’s program in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Strong programming skills, with experience in Python and at least one compiled language (Java or C++) in a production environment.
  • Familiarity and understanding of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Linux infrastructure.
  • Experience with data analytics and data science using Pandas/Polars and modeling frameworks such as scikit-learn/statsmodels.
  • An understanding of columnar time-series databases is a plus, but not required.
  • A familiarity with fixed-income products and markets is a plus, but not a requirement.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

You should expect the following if you join us:

  • Gain a strong sense of ownership and pride for your work—we write code and research markets for ourselves, not for customers or a third party.
  • Understand what it would be like to have a career in systematic trading, and work in a leading algo trading team.
  • Learn about bond markets, how to write high-performance code, and how mathematics and statistics are applied in a trading business.
  • Learn how a professional quantitative trading team manages the complexity of their market.

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $110,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. RBC’s compensation philosophy and principles recognize the importance of a highly qualified global workforce and plays a critical role in attracting, engaging and retaining talent that:

  • Drives RBC’s high performance culture
  • Enables collective achievement of our strategic goals
  • Generates sustainable shareholder returns and above market shareholder value
