The Communications Intern for Project Protect Food Systems Workers will play a key role in supporting the organization’s mission through strategic communication efforts. This position involves participating in weekly policy team meetings to stay informed on key advocacy efforts, managing the organization’s social media platforms to amplify its message, and contributing to fundraising initiatives that sustain vital programs. The intern will develop a plan for the redesign of the Project Protect website, ensuring it is user-friendly, visually compelling, and effectively communicates the organization’s work and impact. Additionally, the Communications Intern will research and publish blog posts on critical issues affecting agricultural workers, elevating their voices and drawing attention to systemic inequities. Through these responsibilities, the intern will gain hands-on experience in communications, advocacy, and nonprofit operations while advancing the health, safety, and economic justice of food systems workers across Colorado.
Qualifications: Strong proficiency in Spanish, both written and spoken, to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and create bilingual content. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to create engaging content for different platforms. Experience managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter) and familiarity with social media scheduling tools. Demonstrated interest in social justice, advocacy, or working with underserved communities. Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team. Creativity, initiative, and enthusiasm for advancing health equity and economic justice for agricultural workers.
The ideal candidate for the Communications Intern position is an enthusiastic undergraduate student passionate about social justice and advancing equity for agricultural workers. They are fluent in Spanish and skilled at creating compelling, bilingual content for diverse audiences across social media platforms and other communication channels. With strong organizational skills and a proactive attitude, the ideal candidate is eager to learn, contribute to meaningful advocacy efforts, and take ownership of projects like website redesign and blog development.
Applicants approved for the PIIE program will be asked for a one-page writing sample as part of the interview process.
