Biomechanical Engineering Intern

Toyoda Gosei North America (located in Troy, MI) has an opening for a Biomechanical Engineering Summer Intern. The Biomechanical Test Engineer Intern functions under the direction of the Crash Safety Manager, and is responsible for assisting engineers and technicians in the setup, execution, and analysis of various Safety Systems testing throughout the building for Toyoda Gosei (TG) North America Corporation (TGNA), and TGNA Manufacturing Companies (NAMCs).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Assist Engineers and Technicians with various testing responsibilities within the test lab
  • Support component preparation and post-test component analysis
  • Use defined procedures to develop proficiency operating high-speed cameras and data collection systems
  • Assist ATD (Crash Test Dummy) technicians in daily tasks and assist in inspection process development
  • Drive optimization by being actively engaged in continuous improvement efforts
  • Work with Crash Safety Team, Safety Systems group, and test technicians to meet laboratory testing objectives
  • Function in a highly collaborative environment where flexibility and teamwork are critical to success

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Minimum of 2 years' undergraduate studies completed, or graduate students
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Engineering, with a focus on Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Good hands-on skills for mechanical assembly and basic hand tool use
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal, non-verbal, negotiation and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to sustain a high degree of professionalism in interacting with internal and external customers is required
