Legal Internship

Overview:

The Legal Intern will work with the Legal Department to perform a wide variety of tasks across multiple areas. This role is ideal for an individual with an interest in the law related to employment, maritime, shipping, contract, and international issues. The Legal Intern will provide assistance with various projects in legal compliance, contract negotiation, regulatory work, employment litigation (as the opportunity arises), and legal project management.

Responsibilities:

Assist APL Logistics' Legal Department with:

  • Contract review and negotiation;
  • Preparing document productions in response to subpoenas;
  • myriad employment law matters, including internal audits, employment law advice, litigation management, strategic planning, and workplace safety management;
  • Generate and organize various legal documents and advice memoranda under the guidance of a licensed attorney.
  • Review records and draft summaries.
  • Maintain and protect confidentiality of private business and personnel information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Result Areas:

  • Support the Legal Department with value-added projects while gaining insight and valuable experience in the field.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year of law school completed – this position is appropriate for a rising 2L or 3L.
  • Foundational skills/abilities/experiences in the following areas: legal knowledge, business knowledge, issue management, analytical skills, influencing others (inside and outside the company), coaching and development, self-development, and productivity.
  • Facility with basic Microsoft Office suite and typing skills.
  • Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrates ethics and integrity

Requirements:

  • Ability to work autonomously and independently
  • Ability to communicate clearly, quickly, and efficiently to internal stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret written communication
  • Ability to write and/or create documents
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and temperate climate conditions.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation, which includes a drug screen.

Candidates must be within 250 miles of an APL Logistics facility or office.

The hourly wage for this position is $20.00.     

Candidates are eligible for the following benefit: 

  • one (1) hour of paid sick time for every thirty (30) hrs worked, and up to a maximum of forty-eight (48) hrs each calendar yr.
