The Communications Intern at the City of Lafayette will play an integral role in supporting the City’s communications efforts across multiple platforms. This position offers hands-on experience in content creation, digital marketing, and public engagement. Day-to-day responsibilities include: Social Media Management: Create, schedule, and publish engaging content across all social media channels (e.g.,Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn). Assist in developing social media campaigns to increase engagement and community outreach. Monitor social media analytics to track performance and suggest improvements. Video Production: Develop short videos for various platforms, including reels, stories, and YouTube. Assist in video editing, captioning, and ensuring content is optimized for each platform working closely with the city's digital communications specialist. Website & Newsletter: Update and maintain the City’s website with current information and events. Assist drafting content for newsletters distributed to residents and stakeholders. Community Outreach & Events: Support outreach initiatives by assisting with marketing materials and community engagement campaigns. Participate in planning and promoting City events and initiatives, ensuring strong public participation. Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work with various City departments to assist with communications-related tasks, such as creating flyers, news flashes, or social media content. Collaborate on internal communications projects to improve messaging consistency across departments. This role is ideal for students with a passion for storytelling, social media trends, and community engagement. Candidates will gain valuable experience in public sector communications, build a professional portfolio, and develop essential skills for future career opportunities.
Qualifications: We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals from diverse academic backgrounds. While a background in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or digital media is beneficial, students from all majors are encouraged to apply.
Preferred qualifications include: Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Familiarity with social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and an interest in content creation and video production. Creative mindset with the ability to develop engaging content across platforms. Interest in community outreach and public service. Basic website management experience (or willingness to learn platforms) Ability to work independently and as part of a team across various departments. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Proactive and adaptable to a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
