The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT) is currently accepting applications for 2 (two) Summer Worker positions, in the Bureau of Policy & Planning, Office of Roadway Information Systems, Systems Inventory and Photolog Units. 


 

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Anticipated start date in May of 2025 and ending by August 31, 2025
  • Monday-Friday, first shift (7:00 am – 3:30 pm)
  • 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, seasonal
  • Location: Department of Transportation Headquarters in Newington, CT.

ABOUT THE ROLE

 

  • The Roadway Inventory Unit is responsible for keeping accurate current and historical data on almost 22,000 miles of public roads in Connecticut.  Through various efforts data is collected and validated on a project level basis for state and local roadways. The unit is responsible for field verifying and providing accurate roadway data that is utilized in the CTDOT’s linear referencing system (LRS) and the Transportation Intelligence Gateway (TIG).  
  • The unit is also responsible for tracking, documenting, and maintaining all identified roadway asset data for use in meeting reporting requirements including but not limited to the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS).  This data supports various critical CTDOT functions including; asset management, project prioritization and coordination, financial tracking, funding eligibility, safety analysis, Federal and State reporting requirements, and performance management, among others. 
  • The Photolog Unit is responsible for collection of pavement condition metrics, geometric data, and right-of-way imagery on more than 8,000 bi-directional miles on the State’s highway system, a sample section of local roadways and on the CTfastrak System to support CTDOT need’s and meet federal reporting requirements. The pavement condition data and imagery collected is used to analyze pavements across these networks and provide input into the Department’s Pavement Management System for condition forecasting, budgeting, and project programming and design.  The pavement condition data are required elements in the CTDOT’s annual Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) Report to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requirements as well.  The Photolog Section is additionally responsible for conducting smoothness verification work on various pavement jobs to aid in the assessment of bonuses or penalties to the contractors.
