Environmental Intern
LimnoTech is seeking a summer intern based in our Ann Arbor office to assist with environmental fieldwork, monitoring, and online real-time sensing projects. The internship will include work in the coastal waters of the Great Lakes, watersheds, wetlands, and inland lakes. LimnoTech is seeking candidates from a broad range of academic backgrounds, including biological sciences, environmental science, or relevant engineering disciplines.
Position Responsibilities
Our interns typically work on a variety of projects. Responsibilities are expected to include:
- Field sampling, environmental sensor deployment, and data collection activities
- Data management and analysis, including development and management of environmental databases, reviewing data, and developing scripts to catch errors
- Assisting with boat and equipment maintenance activities
- Performing research in support of various projects
This position is expected to start in mid-May of 2025 and last through late August. Activities will be in-person, Monday through Friday (anticipated 40 hours/week). The position is based out of our Ann Arbor office, with travel for fieldwork within the Great Lakes region.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate students with at least 5 semesters of coursework (junior+), graduate students (Master’s and Ph.D.), and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as are strong analytical and computational abilities.
- The intern must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate vehicles in Michigan and Ohio.
- This position requires occasional travel, working outdoors for 8 hours or more at a time, and lifting up to 40 lb.
- Skills related to the application of desktop-based spreadsheet and/or relational database software for managing and analyzing data are desirable.
- Must be legally able to work in the U.S. (proper documentation required)
Compensation
This is a paid hourly position, anticipated as 40 hours per week. Compensation is commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
