Education Intern

Gain experience working with a non-profit organization with a focus on public education (mainly youth) and visitor services. Responsibilities include leading groups of students during school programs, assisting with visitor services and events as needed, and other educational projects as assigned. Total number of hours can be adjusted according to your internship requirements. 

Responsibilities:

  • School Program Leader: Under the guidance of the Education Director, assist with leading groups of school children visiting the WVBG on field trips (programs typically occur on select weekday mornings in April/May). The intern will study the lesson plans in advance and be responsible for leading a group of students and teaching them about science and natural history related subjects. Training is provided.
  • Visitor Services: This includes acting as a WVBG Greeter, someone who greets, informs, and orients Garden visitors. This may also include working in the Visitors Center.
  • Development and/or assistance with lesson plans: Assist with the revision and development of lesson plans, self-guided tours, or other educational products. Specific outcomes will be identified, and guidance provided by the WVBG Education Director.
  • Summer Camp Instructor: Plan for camps which includes meeting with camp leaders for training as well as helping to prepare lessons, activities, and crafts for camp. Help run camps which includes assisting camp leader during camp with set-up, leading activities, monitoring campers, etc.
  • Site Maintenance and other tasks as needed: Assist with garden, site, and building maintenance as assigned as well as any other tasks assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Assistance with special events: Assist as needed with special events taking place at the WVBG
