Landscape Architecture Intern
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Landscape Architecture Intern provides support to staff with ongoing landscape architecture projects. Tasks include assisting in the preparation of concept plans, site plans, details, construction drawings, site analysis, and presentation graphics. The intern position offers the opportunity for landscape architectural students to participate in the day to day activities of the office and gain additional understanding of PEA and the profession as a whole.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborates with staff on the design packages.
• Analyzes data on conditions such as site location, drainage, or structure location for environmental reports or landscaping plans.
• Assists in the preparation of plans/details using CAD software.
• Assists in the preparation of landscape plans, site plans, hardscape details, construction drawings, site analysis, and presentation graphics.
• Seeks appropriate guidance in resolving various project related issues.
• Manages time effectively, organizes, and works on multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet project deadlines and client needs.
• Visits project sites to review conditions as appropriate with appropriate PEA staff.
• Performs other duties assigned.
FORMAL EDUCATION, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
• High school diploma required
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Landscape Architecture program.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
• Understanding of landscape and native plants in the Midwest region.
• Working knowledge of typical computer software programs used for design and graphics (AutoCAD, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Sketchup, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work is performed mostly in office settings. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various sites or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers and various pieces of office equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
AVAILABILITY
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
TRAVEL
Minimal travel is expected for this position.
