Special Education Assistant Principal

POSITION GOAL:

 

This position provides support for programs and services operated by St. Joseph County ISD in coordination with and under the direction of the Principal. The Assistant Principal will assist with activities related to instructional leadership, student and staff safety, staff evaluation, IEP implementation, transportation, state assessment, and professional learning.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Master’s degree and Full Approval in at least one area of special education. 
  • Ability to meet the requirements for Full or Temporary Approval as a Special Education

                   Supervisor as required by Rule 340.1772.

  • Ability to obtain other administrative certifications as required by State Law. 
  • Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
  • Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the        job.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Facilitate data collection and collaborate with staff in order to provide individualized and quality Extended School Year services to students who qualify.
  2. Monitor, evaluate, and ensure facilitation, development, & implementation of quality plans for all staff and teachers of young adults in the development individualized IEPs; including facilitating development of individualized goals supporting increased self-advocacy, independence, and work readiness.
  3. Support daily school operations and processes by substitute teaching, supporting staff and students, as needed.
  4. Participate in the school improvement process to develop a clear plan for continuous improvement that is consistent with the district’s mission.
  5. Provide a safe school environment in a climate of high expectations with an established program/routines that support and recognize habits of reflective practice for self, staff, students and parents. 
  6. Demonstrate a strong dedication and related skills/knowledge for student-centered, trauma competent, teaching and learning which builds student, family and community connections.
  7. Work with district leadership and staff to use data, information, and research to set priorities, evaluate programming, and collaborate for improved results for students. 
  8. Monitor, evaluate, and ensure facilitation, development, implementation of quality student evaluations, IEPs, transition planning, and provision of a free appropriate public education.
  9. Evaluate staff in accordance with state laws and district personnel evaluation policies.
  10. Review teacher lesson plans/performance to ensure that all elements of the curriculum are taught in a trauma competent environment where all students experience safety and success. 
  11. Support school processes and routines that engage teachers/staff in consistent monitoring of student progress and evaluation practices, interventions, and improvement of instruction that meet the individualized needs of students and build relationships. 
  12. Interact with co-workers, administration, students and parents in positive, supportive, trauma competent, and cooperative ways for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required of position. 
  13. Support school process and procedure related to transportation, state assessment, events, hiring, and student transition.
  14. Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required of the position.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Executive Director of Special Education.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS: Special Education Principal

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  240 day position.  Salary and conditions of employment established by the Board of Education
