2025 Product Development, Science & Technology (PDS&T) Graduate Intern – Combination Products, Aesthetics, and Devices

Combination Products, Aesthetics, and Devices Intern Overview

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for AbbVie Interns.

Product Development, Science and Technology (PDS&T) is the intersection of technical excellence and business impact.  We are champions of product innovation and process knowledge to solve AbbVie's most complex technical challenges to successfully support late-phase products, commercialize our pipeline, ensure the quality and efficacy of our products, make a direct impact on patient health and well-being.

As an intern on the Combination Products, Aesthetics, and Devices team, you would focus on a technical project to support product development. The focus will be polymeric materials-based gel cross-linking and degradation, and polymer rheology from the manufacturing process in melt rheology mixing and rheology characterization with and without biocompatible fillers in the studied gel materials. The selected intern will preferably have knowledge in the biomaterials of hyaluronic acid (HA) polymeric materials and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHAp) inorganic beads. The activities include, but are not limited to process development, material characterization, technical investigations, robustness improvements, and innovative technologies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate knowledge in polymeric-based materials and biomaterial inorganic beads for medical, aesthetic, and pharmaceutical product applications.
  • Enable study design and conduct experimental work in polymer cross-linking and degradation for product development and dynamic rheology characterization.
  • Leverage knowledge in filled bioinorganic particles in a polymeric material system and its mechanisms and impacts on cross-linking and degradation.
  • Enable materials rheology variability characterization in storage and loss modulus, and viscosity through rheometer and analyzing the experimental data.
  • Characterize, assess, and understand filler surface chemistry, pH, morphology, and their interactions with its based polymeric materials.
  • Analyze the experimental data, identify the observed trend, summarize the results, organize the slide deck, and present to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research and development activities.
  • Develop and execute laboratory work, drawing conclusions and deviations.
