Stormwater Stream Stabilization Support Internship
The Stormwater Stream Stabilization Support Internship provides candidates an opportunity to learn about the overall Stormwater Management Program and operation, drainage assistance/stream stabilization processes and procedures, stream stabilization data collection and field techniques. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who wish to acquire technical knowledge and hands-on skills in engineering, utility administration, and explore Raleigh Stormwater programs.
This internship opportunity is within the Stream Stabilization group of Raleigh Stormwater in the Engineering Services Department. The intern will work as an Engineering Technician providing support to the Drainage Assistance/Stream Stabilization group in streambank stabilizations, revegetation, riparian buffer restoration, researching, investigating drainage inquiries, and providing overall team support. The incumbent will work with Engineering Specialists to review drainage assistance and stream stabilization requests, verify and document stream/drainage channel erosion, and enter information into the CityWorks and SharePoint applications. The incumbent will also assist with in-field small-scale stream projects, Buffer Builder Bag (B3) preparation and distributions to residents, COR Greenhouse harvesting, and inventory checks, support and review data collected on the Field Erosion App and Buffer Builder Bag (B3) program Applications, Right of Entry and Exhibit documents, and perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. This position is temporary and part-time (minimum 10 hours per week but can be up to 20 hours per week during spring and fall semesters, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Stream Stabilization group in investigating stream erosion issues, responding to citizens, and data entry
- Support Stream Stabilization group on small-scale stream and stream bank blow-out repairs
- Provide specialized and technical support of assigned engineering and drainage assistance/stream stabilization administrative functions
- Assist Parks and Recreation Greenhouse group in harvesting and planting initiatives as needed
- Review the daily, weekly, and monthly Buffer Builder Bag (B3) applications and submit to other platforms
- Support staff in reviewing emails, site plans, proposals, and maps as needed
- Coordinate with other City departments such as Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources and Raleigh Water
- This position will require the use of a City vehicle in order to travel to job sites for investigation and inspection purposes

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma supplemented with one to two years of related college-level coursework. Seeking candidates interested in stormwater management, biology, hydrology, geomorphology, civil engineering, environmental sciences, or related discipline, conservation, and natural resources, etc. and working towards a college degree in a related field.
Licensing and Certifications:
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
