We’re excited to begin recruitment for our Summer 2025 Intern Program with opportunities for undergraduate students seeking Internships in the Information Technology field. Our full-time, paid Internships allow you to gain exposure to real-world applications of your area of study and contribute to our company's success.
As an Intern, you will be paired up with a Mentor who will guide you throughout the internship, which, along with our down-to-earth and approachable culture, will allow you to gain insight and perspective from professionals at all levels of the organization.
You’ll also have a chance to network with interns in other functional areas, meet with our Executive staff, and participate in a community-service-related project. With over 135 years of experience behind us, we’re eager to share what we know to set you up for success in this stable, diverse industry.
Application Development Internship Overview
Application Development Interns at Hastings will have a chance to not only learn about but support our Application Development function which is key to the digital transformation of our company. The Intern will work with modern technologies in a full-stack development environment and have the opportunity to make a positive difference for the company, our policyholders, and agency partners.
- Internships will start on May 12th, 2025, and run for 12 weeks, wrapping up on August 1st.
- Interns will work a full-time schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- Ideally, the Intern will work a hybrid schedule consisting of both in-office (1-2 days per week) at our Hastings, Michigan headquarters, and the rest of the week remotely.
Intern Duties & Tasks
- Learn the basics of the Property & Casualty Insurance industry while gaining hands-on development experience.
- Support and work closely with your mentor, Developers, and numerous other roles throughout the organization.
- Guide changes through the full software development lifecycle, from development to testing, to deployment.
- Develop components including website user interfaces, APIs, database elements, and other core insurance applications.
- Gain knowledge of and utilize development standards and best practices.
Intern Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program from an accredited institution majoring in a related field. Junior / Senior level Computer Science, Networking, and Software Development majors preferred, but not required.
- A minimum of a 3.0 GPA within the major program is preferred.
- Minimum 2.5 GPA cumulative GPA required.
- Prior coding or development experience, either self-paced or through work experiences is helpful, but not required.
- Ability to work at least one day weekly at our Hastings, Michigan offices either by residing in the area or within a reasonable commuting distance (housing assistance is not provided).
- Demonstrated professional written and verbal communication ability.
- Proficiency with general business applications ( i.e., Microsoft Office).
