Public Information Specialist

POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Provides information to the public through a variety of means including answering constituent phone calls and e-mails, maintaining contact with the news media and social media content, on-line communication, writing and distributing news releases, delivering presentations, planning and organizing special events and developing collateral materials. Conceptualizes and produces marketing packages and communications materials. Develops partnerships with public and private entities.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *

Position Specific Summary

The Public Information Specialist position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation and Mobility is responsible for supporting the City’s initiatives fostering effective communication and engagement with Ward offices, constituents, businesses, and other local communities. This position manages project outreach, coordinates events, media inquiries, and maintains clear and timely communication with all stakeholders. 

 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Management Coordinator. This position does not supervise.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Produces and distributes information about transportation initiatives, projects and services. Gathers information from design and construction meetings. Provides support during evenings and at weekend events to assist with sign-in, photographs activities of events and provides communication support. Attends Special Events Review Committee (SERC) meetings to discuss upcoming events and traffic impacts. Reviews and comments on event traffic control plan to ensure constituents maintain necessary access during events. Designs project fact sheets, surveys and other materials for events.

Coordinates giveaways and manages outreach materials such as postcards, yard signs and newsletters to keep the public informed about project developments. Coordinates with consultants, department staff and food vendors to finalize event schedules and logistics. Prepares informational materials related to Title VI Civil Rights Act of 1964, for public events to ensure accessibility and public awareness. Collects, scans and uploads completed surveys following events.   

Coordinates, drafts, designs, revises and proofreads outreach materials for events, including bilingual postcards, yard signs, news releases, notification letters, social media posts and project websites. Translates materials as needed, including surveys, news releases, fact sheets and outreach content to support effective communication with diverse audiences.

Creates and cultivates relationships with Ward offices, community members and groups impacted by transportation projects. Collaborates and communicates with Ward offices and the community regarding outreach and shares information about upcoming transportation events.

Coordinates and designs graphic content for general social media. Schedules social media posts across all official City of Tucson and Department of Transportation and Mobility platforms. Films and edits educational videos to promote the department’s efforts and initiatives.

Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's degree

Work Experience:

Three (3) years of directly related experience

License:

Full Hourly Range: $26.57 - 45.84 USD
