JOB TITLE: Intern – Unmanned Systems

DEPARTMENT: Unmanned Systems – Topeka General Office
LOCATION: Topeka, KS
PAY RANGE: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
Full-Time Intern Position for Summer 2025.
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Intern Description:
As an Unmanned Systems Intern, you will work directly with Evergy’s Unmanned Systems Group assisting in day-to-day activities. The Unmanned Systems Intern will also work closely with technical experts in various disciplines giving insight into the opportunities that exist within our electrical utility environment.
Job tasks include but not limited to:
- Assist in developing proactive inspection strategies.
- Assist with inspections of T&D assets with UAS.
- Assist with photogrammetry data collection for Generation, T&D and other work areas.
- Process and generate deliverables for various work groups.
- Perform routine maintenance on UAS fleet such as firmware upgrades and small mechanical repairs as required.
- Assist in applying analytics/AI/machine learning tools to large datasets.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Second, third or fourth year student actively pursuing a degree in Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Robotics, Engineering (Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial or Construction Science) or other applicable area of study.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills.
- Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel.
- Proficiency in aerial data collection/remote sensing, photogrammetry, word processing, spreadsheets and databases preferred.
- Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively in high stress environment.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess a valid Part 107 Remote Pilot in Command Certificate.
Working Conditions:
Normal office working conditions along with field work and some travel will be required. Ability to meet strict deadlines and work well under pressure required. Must have excellent work record including good attendance.
