The Challenge

We're looking for an entry-level Engineering Technician to join our Union Resident Engineering team.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Support and assist senior technicians and engineers in construction inspections, surveying, testing, NPDES inspections, and construction traffic control
  • Perform entry-level technical work involving materials sampling and basic inspection duties to ensure adherence to codes/standards by NCDOT and private contractors.
  • Write diaries and reports on project operations.
  • Complete material reports and document pay records.
  • Perform construction calculations.
  • Enter data using an computer/iPad entry.

What You Bring

  • Proficiency in detailed record keeping.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours when needed.
  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
  • Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
  • Computer experience, including Microsoft Office, drafting software, and data entry.
  • You apply a safety program to all operations, and can work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, weather extremes, and climbing rough/uneven terrain.
  • Communications skills to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment.
  • A general knowledge of surveying methods and procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical activity, such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
  • Safety toe shoes.

Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
