The Challenge
We're looking for an entry-level Engineering Technician to join our Union Resident Engineering team.
In this role, you will:
- Support and assist senior technicians and engineers in construction inspections, surveying, testing, NPDES inspections, and construction traffic control
- Perform entry-level technical work involving materials sampling and basic inspection duties to ensure adherence to codes/standards by NCDOT and private contractors.
- Write diaries and reports on project operations.
- Complete material reports and document pay records.
- Perform construction calculations.
- Enter data using an computer/iPad entry.
What You Bring
- Proficiency in detailed record keeping.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours when needed.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Computer experience, including Microsoft Office, drafting software, and data entry.
- You apply a safety program to all operations, and can work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, weather extremes, and climbing rough/uneven terrain.
- Communications skills to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment.
- A general knowledge of surveying methods and procedures is preferred.
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity, such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
- Safety toe shoes.
Education & Experience
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
