Virology & Rabies Laboratory Technologist II

This position is located in the Virology & Rabies program area within the Public Health Laboratory
Performs dPCR for wastewater surveillance. Performs proficiency surveys and competency as needed. Monitors quality control trends for wastewater testing.
Coordinates with supervisor on wastewater surveillance as needed to ensure grant milestones are met.
Performs Rabies DFA on animals for surveillance purposes. Performs molecular and serological assays or viral pathogens.
Performs on-call weekend and holiday rotation for Rabies and viral pathogens part of outbreak investigations.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent training in a related medical, scientific or technical discipline and journey-level work experience in a related field.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Agency Additional Requirements:
Must be able to read and understand laboratory procedure manuals.
Must be qualified to perform high complexity test under CLIA '88.
Must be able to communicate effectively with the general public and staff members.
Must be able to work at BSL-2 and BSL-2 plus.
Must be able to wear a respiratory for long periods of time.
Compliance with health protection measures and biological monitoring are required.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a molecular laboratory preferred.

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
