Security Assessment Summer Intern

Summer Internship Position will begin June 1, 2025 and end August 8, 2025 (40 hours per week).

About The Division

General description
Join the information Security Division as a Security Assessment Intern! Performs entry-level information security and cybersecurity analysis work. Work involves assisting with cybersecurity risk management and information security work in our agency. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Apply today and help the Comptroller's office keep the Texas economy strong.


Work Hours
Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours may change based upon business need. 

This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule if certain conditions are met; working arrangements may change at any time as business necessitates.

 

Minimum Qualifications 
• Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university, or a recent graduate within one year.

• Professional or academic experience in cybersecurity, privacy analysis, information security, or process management work.

 

Preferred Qualifications 
• Enrolled at an accredited college or university with major coursework in cybersecurity, information security, computer engineering, computer information systems, computer science, management information systems or related field.

 

SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.

 

In this role you will:
• Assists in using the Cybersecurity Risk Management tool to build out risk register and conduct risk assessments for applications processing confidential data.
• Assists in using Cybersecurity Risk Management tool to support the development of System Security Plans for agency general support systems. 
• Monitors and/or may assist in developing policies and procedures to ensure Cybersecurity Risk Management tools are functioning as desired.
• Monitors automated tools that facilitate identification and mitigation of information system risks.
• Provides assistance in researching cybersecurity and privacy legislation, regulations, advisories, alerts, and vulnerabilities.
• May assist in reviewing security controls and making recommendations to improve overall security posture.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
