Electrical Distribution Design Engineer
About the Role
Are you ready to make an impact in the energy industry? REA Energy Cooperative is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Distribution Design Engineer to join our team. This role is perfect for recent graduates passionate about electrical systems, design, and delivering reliable energy solutions to communities.
You’ll work hands-on designing, building, and upgrading electrical service lines, combining field experience with cutting-edge technology.
What You’ll Do

Design Solutions:
- Visit customer sites to design overhead and underground electrical lines.
- Use computer mapping software to create staking sheets, material lists, and construction estimates.
- Size transformers and wires based on load requirements.

Project Management:
- Oversee projects from start to finish, including obtaining Right-of-Way Easements and permits.
- Collaborate with utility companies and contractors to ensure successful project execution.
- Document and integrate completed designs into system maps.

System Improvement:
- Recommend upgrades to electrical distribution systems.
- Assist with budgeting, work planning, and other administrative tasks.
What You’ll Bring

Education & Knowledge:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil or mechanical engineering, electrical/electronic technology, GIS, or a related field (preferred).
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code, Rural Utility Specifications, and National Electric Safety Code.

Skills:
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in reading maps, blueprints, and electrical diagrams.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and walk moderate to difficult terrain.
- Willingness to work irregular hours and respond to emergencies when needed.
