Community Programming Internship

The Film Society is seeking seasonal interns to assist with community programming for 2025. We have part-time, hybrid internship positions with paid stipends in the areas of Event Planning, Community Engagement, Programming, and Administration. Students who are enrolled in school can receive academic credit if school programs permit.
 

Internship Overview & Objectives: 

The Community Programming Internship is an opportunity for young adults ages 18-24. In this 3.5 month internship, interns spend 3 weeks learning about the Philadelphia Film Society, through a series of research objectives, informational interviews,  job shadowing, and attending PFS programming and meetings.

Interns will gain hands-on experience in community events and programming through monthly Community  Screenings, Philly Film Showcase, the Oscars Party, and Spring Fest. Working primarily with the Education and Community Department for PFS, interns will gain practice organizing and promoting events, content creating, programming films, communicating and meeting with partners, supporting with volunteer management, data tracking, capturing event footage, and managing day-to-day needs for Film Society programs. Interns will synthesize and showcase their learning into a capstone event, our debut Philadelphia Youth Exhibition. Students will leave with experiential knowledge of how film can be used to inspire, educate, challenge, and entertain while bringing together various communities in and around Philadelphia. 

Positions, responsibilities, and qualifications: 

All interns will have screener, programming, and blurb writing responsibilities in addition to attending events and capturing event footage. 

     Qualifications: 

Ideal interns will have film knowledge, strong writing skills, flexible schedules, available evenings and weekends for events, community/events experience access to film society venues, knowledge of Google Drive, and experience with capturing footage.
 

            1. Community Engagement Intern- 

In addition to the general collective responsibilities, the Community Engagement Intern will work closely with the Education & Community Outreach Department and Film Society partners in planning events, maintaining relationships, recording meeting minutes, attending community programs, and facilitating the application process for the Movies on the Block summer series, and more.

            2. Administrative Intern- 

In addition to the general collective responsibilities, the Administrative Intern will work across departments to manage files, capture program and event data, record team meeting minutes, manage volunteer communication and tracking, and more. 

            3. Events Intern-

In addition to the general collective responsibilities, the Events Intern will work across departments to facilitate and attend partner events and activations, introduce films, organize the Youth Exhibition logistics,  support with field trips, and more. 

            4. Programming intern-

In addition to the general collective responsibilities, the Programming Intern will work closely with the Programming Department to screen films, contribute to curated programming selections, write blurbs, introduce films, and lead Youth Exhibition programming efforts under the guidance of the Education and Programming Manager. 
 

Commitment

Interns must be able to dedicate 10-12 hours/week between 11:00 AM and 5PM M-F plus events.  Work time includes 4-hour in-person shifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays plus evening and weekend events when applicable. Interested applicants who cannot meet the time commitments should not apply for this internship. 

     Schedule: 

      W F Work Time:  hybrid 1-3 hours 

      Tu and Th Office Time: in-person 4 hours 

       Sat/Sunday events: 2-5 hours when applicable 


Compensation: 

Film Society internships are stipend positions offered for young adults who are seeking hands-on experience working with an arts nonprofit. The full stipend is $1200 split into three payments of $400.

  • Week Two- Mar. 3: PFS 101 - Intro to Film Society Departments & Events
    • Day 1: Movies on the Block, Department Orientation Session #2 and #3
    • Day 2 : Film Programming, Department Orientation Session #1
  • Week Three- Mar. 10: Exhibition 101 - Intro to Day 2: Departmental Orientation #3
    • Day 1: Community and School Outreach, Q3 Planning
    • Day 2: Volunteer & Event Support and Spring Fest screening
