COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Competitive salary ($55 to 70 /hour) commensurate with experience
  • Per Diem,: 10 - 15  hours per week over 2-3 days; may involve early/late shift pattern (between 7:30 am and 8:30 pm); onsite position
  • Position eligible for 401k (with student debt feature) + 5% employer match after 1 year

POSITION SUMMARY
    The Buck Institute is looking for an organized and motivated nurse to join our team and help oversee the study visits at the Buck. The Clinical Research Nurse is primarily responsible for the accurate completion of visit procedures and collection of information from study patients according to protocols, and for protecting the health, safety, and welfare of research participants. Specific examples include study questionnaires, venous cannulation, blood draws, and light exercise testing. The Clinical Research Nurse may supervise Research Associates (RA) with the entire team working under the guidance and supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure that the integrity and quality of clinical trials are maintained and conducted per federal, state, and local regulations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals, and Buck policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with the study’s protocol by providing thorough review and documentation at each subject study visit.
  • Participate in study screening visits to determine eligible participants by interviewing and documenting medical history to determine compliance with eligibility requirements.
  • Obtain initial and ensure continued consent from participants to take part in the research study.
  • Provide medical oversight during study test visits.
  • Perform medical procedures including collecting vital signs, inserting an intravenous cannula, and collecting blood samples from research participants during test visits.
  • Work with CRA to execute physical and cognitive testing during study visits.
  • Answer patients' questions about the study during test visits.
  • Communicate regularly with the PI about study-related issues.
  • Help researchers with data collection by working with members of the research team such as statisticians, lab technicians, and physicians.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient-related records including written and verbal communications.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience

  • Valid RN license from the State of California
  • Diploma from an accredited nursing school required; Bachelor of Nursing or other Science degree preferred
  • Clinical nursing research experience in a hospital, clinic, or similar healthcare setting is preferred but not required if the candidate has sufficient interest in learning about clinical research
  • Current Basic Life Support training will be required (can be provided after hire)
  • Nursing competency skills per scope of practice (i.e., performing vital signs, nursing assessments, intravenous cannula insertion, etc.)
  • Clinical knowledge and assessment skills appropriate to licensure

  • Proficient with email, calendar scheduling, Microsoft Excel, Google Drive, and proficient at learning platforms such as Redcap and Medrio.

Desired (not required) skills

  • Knowledge of GCP, clinical trials, federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA policies and procedures preferred but not required if the candidate has a willingness to learn.
