Metcalf Clinic Workshop | Careers in Arts & Humanities
Metcalf Clinics are co-op, project-based training program for UChicago students. During the paid project, teams of undergraduates take a deep dive into a professional area of interest and build relevant experience. Students are placed in teams to lead engagements, research, and projects with employer partners. During the program, teams receive access to coaches, industry experts, and the opportunity to network with successful alumni. These clinics are terrific way to hone professional development in technical research, analysis, strategic planning, and presentation skills and a great boost to your resume.
Project Title: Laugh Tracks & Spotlight Stroll: A Chicago Performing Arts Walking Tour
Departments/Mentors Involved: The Revival Improv Theater; UChicago Chicago Studies Program; UChicago Careers
Project Summary: In partnership with The Revival Theater, UChicago Chicago Studies is assisting with the development of a walking tour that showcases the rich and vibrant performing arts history of Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood. From current favorites like Buddy Guy’s Legends and the historic Fine Arts Building, to icons of the past like Chess Records and All Jokes Aside, the South Loop has given rise to some of the biggest performers and performing arts trends of the past century. Students will research and develop narratives around the history of the performing arts (inclusive of music, theatre/vaudeville, film production, burlesque, minstrelsy, and comedy) in the South Loop. Supervision and support is provided by The Revival and Chicago Studies.
Candidate Qualifications: Up to 10 hrs of availability per week through the duration of the project; Performing Arts and Chicago History interest a plus.
