Field Technician Job Description: South Florida Engineering and Consulting, LLC (SFEC) is offering a full-time, position to provide field support for various environmental monitoring and restoration projects, with a focus on water quality monitoring. 

Work responsibilities are performed primarily in the field with some laboratory work required. Field responsibilities are primarily the collection of surface water samples, although collection of fish, soil, or atmospheric deposition samples may also be required. 

The position’s responsibilities may include:

  • collect manual and electronic surface water quality and/or ecological and biological samples
  • operate, clean, calibrate and maintain monitoring equipment, including multi-parameter water quality sondes, and automatic water samplers;
  • prepare samples for laboratory analysis, including, but not limited to surface water samples and fish tissue for ultra-trace mercury analysis;
  • collect soil/sediment samples using PONAR dredges, corers, and other devices;•clean and maintain sampling platforms
  • Wetland Delineations
  • T&E identification
  • Identification of flora and fauna both native and invasive
  • R Programming
  • GIS experience

This is a full-time position, with benefits including health, dental, and vision plans, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, and paid time off including 10 paid holidays. The compensation range for this position is $17.00 – $23.00 per hour based on experience.

Qualifications: 

Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and have strong oral and written communication skills (bilingual is a plus), and proven organizational, time, and self-management skills. Qualified candidates must have an Associate’s degree in a related field and at least 2 years of related experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 0-1 year of related experience and knowledge of the South Florida Environment. Qualified candidates must be able to swim, lift 40 lbs., and work in remote, hot, humid, and wet conditions in areas occupied by alligators, snakes, and stinging/biting insects. A general understanding of water chemistry is required. Driver’s license and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain each) are mandatory. Experience related to field sampling techniques for surface water and the ability to trailer and operate small watercraft is preferred.
