Child Nutrition Specialist/Caterer

  JOB GOAL:
Provide all catering services for district and any outside events that are scheduled. Prepare weekly menu items for all kitchen sites based on needs and forecasting. Place all food and non-food supplies orders and provide exceptional customer service to all kitchen sites. Assist as needed in the kitchen depending on the needs of the department.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Food Handler’s Certificate.
  3. Certified Child Nutrition Manager’s Card or the ability to obtain one.
  4. Must have current Arizona driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  5. Must be creative and service oriented; good interpersonal communication skills.
  6. Ability to work with a variety of kitchens and service areas; ability to effectively plan and organize workload;
  7. Ability to set up buffet luncheons and serve; to include table decorations and attractive food presentations.
  8. Available to work evenings and Saturdays as needed; must be a self-starter and able to complete assignments without direct supervision.
  9. Must have working knowledge of food ordering, food production, and serve and commercial kitchen equipment, must have Child Nutrition merchandising experience/ ability to assemble food party trays.
  10. Ability to perform frequent stooping, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds, must be able to stand for 6 hours at a time; must be willing to serve in other areas as needed.
  11. Knowledge of National School Lunch Program regulations (desired).
  12. Experience using a computer (Internet, email) and computer software related to menu, bookkeeping, and word processing.
  13. Knowledge of HACCP, and workplace safety requirements.
  14. Ability to work with figures and to make arithmetic calculations.
  15. Ability to communicate with parents, staff and students on Child Nutrition program.
  16. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  17. Knowledge of and adheres to all policies, regulations and rules.
  18. Must pass a background check.
  19. Must obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  193 Days; 10 Months
COMPENSATION:  $16.55 - $19.53
BENEFITS:  As per District policy
REPORTS TO:  Director of Child Nutrition Services
HOURS:  30 hours per week and may require longer hours - Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
CLASSIFICATION:  Hourly, Non-exempt

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Responsible for presentation, service, cash, food, safety and varied aspects of the department catering events
  2. Responsible for merchandising and promotional activities as requested
  3. Plan, organize and orchestrate all catering requests
  4. Set up and serve at all special activities, working evenings when needed
  5. Maintain records, quality food preparation, cost effective production and labor control
  6. Provide catering program support to include: Efficient and economic operation of kitchen, accurate preparation of all reports and maintain records including personnel records and time keeping
  7. Prepare menu items using standardized recipes for kitchens and provide delivery of such items as needed to kitchen sites.
  8. Act as a substitute as needed at kitchen sites.
  9. Performs all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed
  10. Perform other duties as assigned
