ABOUT THE Division

General description
Join the Information Technology division team as a Accessibility Compliance Intern! Performs entry-level computer systems analysis and Accessibility Compliance testing work. Work involves testing and documenting of system accessibility compliance issues, communicating the issues to technical staff, and assisting with system issue remediation. May assist in analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing systems. May contributes to development for training and accessibility awareness campaigns to further the mission of Accessibility Compliance. Work under close supervision with the IT Accessibility Manager and the Agency Electronic Information Resource (EIR) coordinator with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Work Hours

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, 40 hours. Occasionally, work non-standard work hours to include additional hours on evenings, weekends, or holidays.  Hours may change based on business need.

Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. Applicant will be required to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e., report to office 3 days/week, etc.) The applicant may need to report to the office with little notice, as business necessitates. Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited four-year college or university, or a recent graduate within one year, with a major coursework in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Management Information Systems or a related IT field.
• One (1) year of recent Professional or Academic experience within a Software Developer role.
• Experience utilizing internet browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox.
• Experience utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Professional or Academic experience in writing and documenting information related to online research.
• Must be able to meet deadlines, have good communication skills, and ensure customer satisfaction.


 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Accessibility testing tools (ex.  SortSite, JAWS, NVDA, Wave).
• Programming knowledge on how to read code.
• Experience setting up and configuring test tools and assistive devices for testing.

 


SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out some duties.  It requires extensive computer, telephone, and client/customer contact.  The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies.  It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.  Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers.  Also, this position requires the incumbent must be able to ride elevator; must be able to carry laptop home for on-call duties, must be able to sit for hours at one time, must be able to work on a pc keying program changes as a repetitive function.

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.

 


In this role you will: 

• Assists in testing customer and technical systems for accessibility compliance for both new systems and after enhancements to existing systems. May assist with scheduling, facilitating and documenting results of accessibility compliance testing.  
• Assists in documenting accessibility testing results and communicating those results to technical employees for remediation. May review remediation results to ensure documented issues have been adequately addressed.  
• Assists with the development of test cases and scenarios used to ensure new systems and enhancements to existing systems meet required accessibility standards. May communicate requirements and test cases to the testing team(s) to ensure thorough testing of all areas expected to meet accessibility standards.    
• May assist with the development of training material focusing on Accessibility awareness and development best practices.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.
