Summer Camp Activity Advisor

Activity Advisor Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting the Program Manager in supervising, overseeing, and supporting program at camp. This role includes assisting staff through creating and adapting activity plans, creating supply lists and providing staff oversight and training to improve our participant’s programming experience. The Activity Advisor is responsible for managing the Activity Specialists and ensuring that all program activities are meeting the needs of, and are appropriate and accessible for, camp participants.

Essential Functions & Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assist in training, supervising, and evaluating program staff.
    1. Take active role in assisting with trainings during Staff Training Week. 
    2. Meet on a regular basis with Activity Specialists, Program Manager, and Advisors, to review paperwork and activity ideas/plans, and allow for open discussion of concerns or challenges.
    3. Assist in providing new activity ideas to staff.
    4. Walk around during the camp day to observe programming, assist specialists as needed and provide immediate suggestions and feedback.
    5. Provide feedback on activity plans and supply request usage for specialists and group staff. 
    6. Be a role model for staff on how programs should be planned and led. 
  • Assist in management of camp supplies and resources.
    1. Fill activity supply boxes for each day of camp. Keep supply closet/s organized and clean. 
    2. Compile supply list(s) for Program Manager as needed during camp.
    3. Monitor the use of supplies and notify the Manager of arising supply needs/issues.
    4. Assist in providing suggestions/resources to staff for adapting activities so that all of our participants can participate equally. 
  • Be a productive liaison between program staff and Manager.
    1. Communicate daily with Manager to discuss any challenges, ideas or concerns. 
    2. Assist in planning and leading staff meetings as requested.
    3. Maintain an open line of communication with Activity Specialists and Manager. 
    4. Assist in Driveway/Check-In and Check-Out as instructed by the Manager while ensuring a positive relationship with caregivers and being a professional representation of the agency. 
  • Strive to ensure the health and safety of participants.
    1. Strive to maintain safety by regular and careful monitoring of participants.
    2. Abide by any best practice or behavior support plan when intervening in a behavioral support situation, and follow emergency protocols as assigned by Manager.
    3. Familiarize self with all participants’ applications and know pertinent information such as dietary needs, personal care needs, allergies, photo release, behavioral concerns, etc. 
  • Coordinate and comply with standards and regulations, as well as adhering to external and internal documentation requirements.
    1. Comply with the standards of paperwork and documentation (when necessary).
    2. Maintain a high degree of professionalism with co-workers, volunteers, participants, guardians and visitors. 
  • Other assigned duties as required.
