New Pay Scaled effective 03/16/2025.

A position responsible for protection of life and property, prevention of crime through patrol and/or directed activities, enforcement of State and local laws and ordinances relating to criminal and traffic violations, and solution of crime through preliminary investigation, identification, apprehension, and conviction of criminals; other duties as assigned. The work is performed under the general direction of the Chief of Police, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

Minimum Requirement:

  1. Be able to perform and complete the essential functions and duties expected of a police officer with or without reasonable accommodations.
  2. Be a U. S. Citizen or intend to become a resident upon being employed.
  3. Have the ability to obtain certification from ILEA.
  4. Have reach the age of 21 at the time of appointment.
  5. Possess at least an associate degree or a have a minimum of 60 college credits.
  6. Hold a valid driver’s license.
  7. Possess a high level of personal integrity and be of good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation including a fingerprint search conducted of local, state and national fingerprint files.
  8. Have not been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.
  9. Not be addicted to drugs or alcohol.
  10. Be examined by a physician and meet the physical requirements necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of a law enforcement officer.
  11. Have uncorrected vision of not less than 20/100 in both eyes, corrected to 20/20, and color vision consistent with the occupational demands of law enforcement.
  12. Have normal hearing in each ear (hearing aids are acceptable if a candidate can demonstrate sufficient hearing proficiency to perform all necessary duties of a law enforcement officer).
  13. Undergo psychological testing.
  14. Not be opposed to use of force to fulfill duties.
