The King County Executive's Office of Performance, Strategy, and Budget (PSB) is hiring interns to work with several different teams within the office as part of the 2025 PSB Summer Internship Program. Interns will gain a firsthand understanding of the workings of government, get an overview of how projects, policies, and legislation are created and implemented, understand why civic engagement matters, and build an appreciation for the importance of public service. Depending on the assignment, interns may interact with a wide variety of people including staff, elected officials, community members, or program participants. Interns will have the opportunity to be part of a high-performing team and take advantage of County training and learning opportunities. Opportunities to engage as an intern cohort, network and connect with leaders across the organization, and participate in outings to various County operations add to the intern experience at PSB.

ABOUT THE OFFICE
The Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget (PSB) is in the Executive department of King County government. It serves as a resource to the County's departments and agencies in developing and implementing budgets, strategic plans, financial plans, visual management tools, continuous improvement processes, and performance metrics. It is also responsible for regional planning and implementation of Lean process improvement. Project Management (PMO) Intern
This internship will be with the Project Management team in the Continuous Improvement section of PSB. In this role, you will assist the lead project managers in supporting the implementation of assigned projects. This internship is available to undergraduate applicants.
Job Duties
Under supervision, the intern will perform the following duties:
- The project management intern will shadow an assigned PM and PMT Lead on ongoing projects.
- Assist with coordination and facilitation of projects by scoping, planning, monitoring project progress, and providing administrative and logistic support to project teams.
- Support simultaneous, small projects as assigned.
- Complete PM learning objectives to be discussed with supervisor, including principles of project management and continuous improvement.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- This position is open to?undergraduate? students with an interest in public policy, government administration, finance, business administration, or project management. Students in other programs with relevant interests and skills are also encouraged to apply.
- Working knowledge of basic project management principles.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrates attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Self-starter with a passion for learning who is not afraid to ask questions.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with diverse peoples and peoples from different backgrounds and across different sectors.

TELECOMMUTING:
This position will work a hybrid of in-person (on-site) and telework, depending on operational need. Interns will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer. WHO MAY APPLY:
This position is open to undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled and continuing in the fall of 2025 in full time status at an accredited university/college with coursework in the described areas. Proof of full-time enrollment status may be required.
WORK SCHEDULE:
The work schedule will be Monday-Friday. During the school term, the work week will consist of 10-20 hours at the discretion of your supervisor. During summer, the work week will consist of 40 hours. These are internships expected to last until mid- to late-August, although the position may begin earlier or end later depending on project and scheduling needs.
